Sunderland:
8 Patterson: Superb first half save to deny Anthony. A real presence in his own box.
6 Hume: Had some difficult moments but stuck at his task. Better in the second haldf.
7 Mepham: Helped Sunderland compose themselves after worrying opening. His late withdrawal a concern.
7 O’Nien: Used his experience to steady the ship after difficult start. Helped cover Cirkin against dangerous Anthony.
7 Cirkin: Couldn’t cope with Anthony early on but stuck at it and got a grip of the winger. Linked up well with Le Fee in second half and won second penalty.
7 Neil: Mature and disciplined display in the middle of the park.
7 Jobe: Showed his defensive discipline by providing much-needed support for Neil. Made a number of crucial interceptions.
6 Rigg: First Championship start since Blackburn. Tireless display but didn’t have impact in attacking third that he’d have liked.
7 Le Fee: Showed his versatility by adjusting well to role on left side. Disciplined in first half before showing flashes of his class in the second. Superb pass for Isidor chance.
5 Roberts: Worked hard on the right but didn’t happen for him.
5 Isidor: So difficult to mark, because he was a handful throughout and caused the Championship’s best defence problems, but missed glorious chance early in the second half and then two late penalties.
