Morris has been out of action since early November, when he suffered a knee injury while away on international duty with the United States, while Ayling has been missing since the home win over Millwall in the middle of last month.
Both are now back in training, but it’s not clear whether they’ll be deemed ready to go straight back into the Boro starting XI at Fratton Park or will have to settle for a place on the bench.
Tommy Conway remains sidelined but has taken positive steps in his recovery, and Carrick is hopeful “it won’t be too long” until the striker is ready to return.

Carrick said: “Aidan is back training and Luke is back training too. They’ve not had an awful lot of sessions between them yet, but they are back, so that’s a positive step for both of them. Seny has taken his training a step further as well, which is another positive. Gradually, it’s getting a little better.
“Tommy is back on the grass finishing the end of his rehab. It won’t be this week that he’s back, but we’re hoping it won’t be too long after that. We’ll wait and see how the next week or two goes.”
