Enzo Le Fee & Kristjaan Speakman react after Sunderland transfer

Le Fee’s permanent move to Sunderland was confirmed on Tuesday, with the midfielder signing a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light.

The transfer was effectively sealed when Sunderland won at Wembley, with promotion triggering an obligation to buy.

And for Le Fee, it was a move he was desperate to move on a permanent basis from the minute he touched down in the North East in January.

“I said before the play-off final that my heart was in Sunderland – I wanted to stay, and this made it the most important game of my life,” said the Frenchman, who was delighted to reunite with his former boss Regis Le Bris on Wearside.

“Together, we did it. From the moment I arrived, I have enjoyed my football, my team-mates, and our supporters.

“We shared an incredible experience, and now we get to take the next step.

“There are greater challenges ahead, but we must face them together, and I can’t wait to play for Sunderland in the Premier League.”

Le Fee is the first piece of the jigsaw as Sunderland look to further strengthen their squad as they plan for life in the top flight.

And such a glowing reference from such a high profile recruit will surely only help to strengthen Sunderland’s hand as they look to make more signings in the weeks ahead.

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said: “In Enzo, we knew we were acquiring a very high-level player who could be influential in critical moments – the moments that change the outcome of games and seasons.

“He’s been a big part of our success, so we’re delighted that he’s signing permanently and joining us in the Premier League.

“Above all else, he’s been a team player, and following our play-off final victory, I think everyone could see exactly what the club means to him.”

Sunderland are braced for the likely exit of Jobe Bellingham, who will be replaced this summer.

The Black Cats are also keen to add to their squad in several departments, with Le Bris confirming ahead of the play-off final that targets had been lined up in the event of winning promotion to the Premier League.
