Carrick lost Aaron Danks to Bayern Munich in the summer and replaced the former Aston Villa coach with his younger brother Graeme, who left his role as Newcastle United‘s Under-18s boss.
Graeme Carrick joined ex-Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate and former club captain Grant Leadbitter in his brother’s backroom team, which also includes long-time Manchester United goalkeeper coach Alan Fettis, 54.
While Boro’s coaching team is relatively youthful, Carrick says his staff have enormous experience in the game, and dismissed suggestions he’d benefit from the support of another older head.

He said: “We’ve lost some games, everything is not wrong. Let’s put things into perspective.
“We’ve played fantastic at times this season and had some good results and good runs. We’ve lost some games, I understand where those questions are coming from. We have good coaches, I have a fantastic backroom staff and I’m delighted with the staff we’ve got. I’m not worried about that.
“Age doesn’t come into it. It’s experience and I feel we have a lot of experience – various ways, different personalities and we all gel together. It’s the same as the group of players, it’s the dynamic. Let’s be calm about things.
“Clamouring for change isn’t always the answer. We know what we’re good at, we know what we’re good at as staff.
“The players know and feel what they’re good at. We have to keep doubling down on that and keep that belief.”
Carrick has assembled a packed contacts book during his long career in the game but hasn’t felt the need to reach out for support during Boro’s recent struggle for form.
He said: “I’ve not overplayed the whole situation. We know what the job is and what help I need to give the players.
“I speak to certain people, without mentioning any names, as casual conversations. I understand why this is highlighted and I totally get it but for me working I’m pretty clear what we need to do and a version of turning things around. I’m not making a bigger deal of it.”
