The Brazilian was forced off in the second half of the weekend defeat to Fulham and was later pictured with a brace on his right leg.
That was a precaution and Joelinton is now out of the brace, but Howe admitted the 28-year-old was still a “doubt” for tomorrow night’s give.
Joelinton will now be closely assessed today before Howe and his coaching and medical team make a final decision on his availability.
“Joey was in a knee brace as a precaution,” said Howe.
“He’s out of that now. I will say he is a doubt but we will give him every opportunity.”
Howe will also make a final call on Callum Wilson after today’s training session, with the striker in contention to return to the squad for the first time since the Premier League defeat at Brentford in early December.
Howe said: “There is a chance, we have another training session to get through so we will see. Let’s get through training before we make a decision.”
