Whether you originally needed a mood booster, or just wanted something light and easy to watch, laughter is good for the soul. But what are the best comedy movies around? Well, according to me, there are only a couple of handfuls that are worth mentioning.
One of the funniest films I’ve ever seen (whether you agree or not) is the 2004 White Chicks. For those unaware (where have you been?), White Chicks is about two black male FBI agents who go undercover as white female socialites. The story is more complicated than that – but there’s lots of laugh-out-loud moments, especially when Terry Crews enters the scene.
One iconic part (of many) sees Terry’s character – Latrell – fawning over detective Marcus posing as Tiffany.
“Easy, white chocolate,” Latrell smirked, as he stood over – who he believed to be Tiffany – bare-chested in Y-fronts.
Blocking the sun while “Tiffany” had been sunbathing, Latrell added: “Wouldn’t want you to melt.”
Moving on to the next great laugh-out-loud film that has made my list is Kick-Ass.
The hysterical plot involves scrawny high school student Dave Lizewski, who decides, one day, to become a superhero despite a lack of superpowers.
Then there’s Meet The Parents (the 2000 original) where Chicago male nurse “Greg Focker” has a difficult time impressing his girlfriend’s family.
Top stars feature in the comedy including Robert DeNiro as the hard-to-please father and Ben Stiller as the overly accommodating plus-one.
Trying to work his way up to ask for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage, things seem to go from bad to worse for this hopeless romantic.
Other noteworthy mentions include Deadpool (2016), Wedding Crashers (2005), and The Truman Show (1998).
What seems to connect all of these films, to me, is their sense of silliness and disbelief.
When you just want to get away from the world for a couple of hours, distracting yourself can be just the tonic you need.
And with laughs guaranteed, it’s hard not to feel good if you tune into a funny film – whichever ones that may be for you.
