Suzanne Collins’ new book has already gained an incredible reputation despite only being released on March 18. The book has been long-awaited and has already been met with thousands of positive reviews. On Amazon, the novel has received 28,776 five-star reviews, suggesting it’s hugely popular among its readers.

Serving as the fifth installment in the Hunger Games series, this prequel delves into the harrowing journey of Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. The novel is set 24 years prior to the original trilogy which was a huge success.

It offers a poignant exploration of survival, trauma, and resistance within the dystopian confines of Panem.

One reader on Amazon said: “The book is relentlessly engaging. Collins has such a tight grip on pacing, and this one marches to the same steady, ominous beat as the original trilogy.

“It’s far more compelling than The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which – while I enjoyed it – felt a touch more distanced from the world we first fell into. Sunrise belongs. It feels like a Hunger Games novel.”

Another reader penned: “This book has been so long awaited within the Hunger Games fandom, but it has truly exceeded all expectations.

“Suzanne Collins has connected the whole series perfectly, bringing in beloved characters in the most beautifully heartbreaking way.

“The parallels to the rest of the series, the foreshadowing, and the symbolism is done in the most incredible way.”

Readers have often pointed out the elements of the novel which are timely in today’s world, such as issues of power and misinformation.

Although the novel is fictional and set in a dystopian world, this has sparked conversations among readers who have enjoyed sharing their thoughts.

A review by the New York Times says: “It is with great pleasure, then, that I can report that Sunrise on the Reaping is a propulsive, heart-wrenching addition to The Hunger Games, adding welcome texture to the cruel world of Panem.”

If you’re looking for a page-turner of a novel, this book could be the perfect one for you to read this spring.
