Thousands laced up their running shoes to take on a 5km or 10km route through the city.
Paula Radcliffe – three-time London Marathon winner and widely considered Britain’s greatest female marathon runner of all time – was on hand to fire the starting gun.
Paula Radcliffe with third place, Rob Scott, first place, Liam Aldridge, and second place, Joseph Wilson (Image: Stuart Boulton) Fitness fanatics lined up at the start line outside the Radisson Blu hotel to tackle the course weaving through the city centre and along the scenic banks of the Wear, before crossing the finish line on the Palace Green, in the shadows of the Cathedral.
Some donned fancy dress, choosing outfits like ballgowns and tutus while they were serenaded by music as part of the Durham Brass Festival.
Winning the 10km race was Liam Aldridge in a time of just 31 minutes ten seconds.
Meanwhile, Liam Taylor was first to cross the finish line in the 5km event, with a time of 16 minutes 11 seconds.

It has become a staple of the city’s summer schedule.
It kicked off on Wednesday with organiser Steve Cram holding an audience with the event at the Gala Theatre, looking back to 1985 when he broke three world records in only 19 days.
Other events in the coming days include a 10k relay on Durham Racecourse on Saturday morning.
