And the winger hopes to be spending plenty of time with the striker on the pitch in the coming season, with Newcastle’s new recruit of the belief that Osula is ready to make an impact on Tyneside.
Osula spent his first season at St James’ Park on the fringes, getting to grips with the demands and requirements of Eddie Howe and his coaching team, who always planned to play the long game with the former Sheffield United striker.
With Newcastle making clear to Liverpool they have no intention of selling Alexander Isak this summer, and with the Magpies in the market for another striker, Osula again faces a fight for match minutes, though United’s participation in the Champions League will force Howe to regularly shuffle his pack to ensure he keeps players fresh.
And Elanga believes Osula – who impressed at the European Under-21 Championships with Denmark last month -is ready to step up for United this coming season.

“He’s got the mentality to do so,” said the winger of his close pal.
“He’s a top player. He’s still young but he’s willing to learn, improve and I think he showed glimpses of it last season.
“I know he didn’t play a lot but he showed what he can bring to the team.
“It’s always good to have someone like that in the team because he offer different things with his runs in behind. His finishing is really good as well.
“For him it’s about continuing to work hard and when his chance comes, take it.”
Osula might get a chance this weekend, with Newcastle continuing their preparations for the coming season with a friendly away at Celtic (3pm Saturday).
Elanga is expected to be involved after spending his first full week with his new teammates following Newcastle’s long pursuit of the former Manchester United youngster.
The fact Elanga had spent so much of the summer with Osula before his Newcastle switch was finalised led to speculation that the striker had played the role of an ‘agent’ in helping to convince the winger to join the Magpies.
But the opportunity to follow his friend to the North East was just one of several factors that made the Newcastle switch so appealing to Elanga.
“His [Osula’s] personality is second to none. I’ve known him since I was only 12 and he’s not changed at all,” said Elanga.
“He’s always been the lively, bubbly kid that he’s now. He’s like my little brother. I was trying to try to speak to him and whatever he needs from me, whether it’s advice or anything, I always try to help him.
“Of course he’s played a part in me coming in – but not just him, Alex as well, Anthony, Sandro, Bruno, and the whole team really. Most importantly the gaffer and his staff played a huge part in me coming in – so it’s been really good so far.”
Newcastle have revealed Elanga will wear the No.20 shirt this season, with Lewis Hall – who had that number last term – moving to become the new No.3.
