Bradford City v Middlesbrough Team News: Rav van den Berg starts

Boro are understood to have turned down two separate offers for van den Berg in the last few days.

Reports in the Dutch media suggested a deal had been agreed for van den Berg, but that was never the case, and the Dutch defender is part of Boro’s starting side at Valley Parade.

Boro are adamant they will only allow van den Berg to leave this summer on their terms, and Rob Edwards will continue to select the 21-year-old in his side until his position changes.

The same is true of Hayden Hackney, who was the subject of an approach from Ipswich Town last week.

Hackney has also been selected in tonight’s starting line-up as Boro play their second domestic friendly of the summer.

Darragh Lenihan remains in the Boro side, having returned to action at Mansfield after missing the whole of last season because of a combination of ankle and Achilles injuries.

The fact the defender is playing his second game in the space of four days suggests Boro are happy with the state of his fitness.

MIDDLESBROUGH: Glover; van den Berg, Fry, Lenihan, Bangura; Morris, Hackney; Whittaker, McGree, Silvera; Conway.

Subs: Brynn, Barlaser, Burgzorg, Ayling, Gilbert, Woolston, Hamilton, Forss, Finch, McCormick, Borges, McCabe.
