Chemsdine Talbi latest as Sunderland recruitment drive continues

A deal has not yet been signed off with Club Brugge but talks are now at an advanced stage and there’s an expectation on all sides that the £19.5m move will be finalised in the coming days.

After the arrival of Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki, Talbi will be another statement signing for Sunderland.

The 20-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in Belgium football and starred for Club Brugge last season, playing 11 times in the Champions League and scoring twice.

Talbi is comfortable playing on either flank and will boost Regis Le Bris’ attacking options, with Sunderland having prioritised the arrival of at least one new wide player this summer.

Patrick Roberts and Romaine Mundle were Sunderland’s first choice wingers last season, but the latter’s campaign was disrupted by two injury setbacks. With Tommy Watson having left for Brighton, the Black Cats looked short in the wide areas.

The arrival of Talbi will be another major coup for Sunderland, with the winger having been of interest to Napoli, RB Leipzig and at least three clubs in Saudi this summer.

Next week looks set to be busy again for the Black Cats, with the arrival of left-back Reinildo set to be confirmed in the coming days, and the former Atletico Madrid defender now looks set to be joined by Talbi.

That will take Sunderland’s new signing tally to five for the summer, but the Black Cats have no intention of stopping there.

Sunderland continue their efforts to strengthen in goal, with talks with Chelsea over Djordje Petrovic having taken place over recent days. The future of Petrovic remains unclear as things stand, with Galatasaray having made a strong move for the keeper and several other clubs closely keeping tabs on the situation.

Sunderland will also sign a striker this summer, with several players in their thinking and talks with clubs and representatives ongoing.
