Trippier gets the nod to start at right-back at the Etihad Stadium, with Tino Livramento on the substitutes’ bench.
As expected, Dan Burn has been passed fit to start at the heart of the back four alongside Fabian Schar.
Burn has recovered from the muscular issue that forced him off during the second half of last weekend’s FA Cup win at Birmingham City.
Anthony Gordon has also been given the green light at the Etihad, with the winger having recovered from the injury problem that kept him out of the cup win at St Andrew’s.
However, Sven Botman remains unavailable because of a knee problem and is not in today’s squad.
Harvey Barnes does return to the matchday group, with the winger named amongst the Newcastle substitutes as the Magpies attempt to secure a first-ever league win at the Etihad.
Phil Foden features in Manchester City’s starting line-up, along with striker Erling Haaland, but Kevin de Bruyne is only on the home side’s bench.
