Middlesbrough player ratings at Preston after defensive disaster

6 Glover: Let down by defenders for both goals.

4 Ayling: Got caught out for the Preston opener and, although Morris shouldn’t have given him the ball, Ayling should have just cleared his lines for the second.

6 Fry: Made a couple of crucial blocks.

5 Van den Berg: Strangely sloppy and involved in the mix-up that led to second goal.

6 Borges: Most of the play in the first half was on the other side of the pitch. Borges was solid. Needed treatment after brave block in the second half, when he was replaced by Giles.

6 Hackney: Midfield was overran in the first half. Got a grip in the second half and had a spell pulling the strings.

4 Morris: What was he thinking playing it back to Ayling and van den Berg to gift Preston a winner?

7 Doak: Contained in the first half but came to life after the break. Set up leveller and almost scored himself soon after.

4 Azaz: Way off the pace in the first half. Improved after the break but nowhere near his best.

7 Burgzorg: Took his goal superbly and for half an hour in the second half caused Preston all sorts of problems.

6 Latte Lath: Pulled up with what looked like a muscle injury after trying to chase early pass over the top. Tried to continue but couldn’t.
