The severity of van den Berg’s injury is not known at this stage.
Dael Fry has replaced van den Berg at centre-half, but there’s also a fitness boost on the bench with Neto Borges back in the squad. The Brazilian has been missing since suffering an ankle injury at Blackburn.
Darragh Lenihan is again among the Boro substitutes.
Kelechi Iheanacho comes into the side, making his first start since the defeat to Leeds at the start of the month.
He replaces Marcus Forss, with Morgan Whittaker moving to the right flank. Finn Azaz starts again on the left, with Tommy Conway leading the line.
