Middlesbrough’s best player was let down in Bristol City defeat

8 Travers: Made a number of crucial saves before Bristol City’s late show.

6 Dijksteel: Solid return to the side but missed defensive header from cross that led to Bristol City’s leveller.

7 Fry: Made one crucial first half block. Decent return to the starting XI, despite defeat.

7 Van den Berg: Two excellent blocks either side of half-time.

7 Borges: Probably his best hour in a Boro shirt before the introduction of Hirakawa that changed the game. He didn’t block cross that led to equaliser.

5 Hackney: Tried to drive forward in possession but switched off for both goals.

6 Morris: Excellent for an hour but neither Morris or Hackney picked up Earthy for Bristol City leveller.

6 Whittaker: Played key role in Boro’s opener with good pass while on the floor to set Iheanacho away. Flashes of what he’s capable.

5 Iheanacho: Shot led to Conway’s opening goal but he’d been a passenger up to that point. Some good touches in first 10 minutes of second half but Boro need more from him.

6 Burgzorg: Started with purpose and had two early shots. Quiet in the second half and switched off with Hackney to allow Earthy to tap in winner.

7 Conway: Scored on his Bristol City return and worked hard throughout. Positive performance.
