The Magpies turned down an improved offer from Leeds at the end of last week, but a further round of negotiations have resulted in a settlement being agreed.
Leeds will pay an initial fee of £13m for Longstaff, who entered the final year of his current contract on Tyneside at the start of this month, and have agreed a further £2m of potential add-ons that are expected to be realised over the course of the midfielder’s stay in West Yorkshire.
Longstaff has already agreed the personal terms of his new deal with Leeds, and is expected to travel for a medical within the next 24 hours.
That should result in a move being concluded relatively quickly, bringing an end to the 27-year-old’s time with his hometown club.

North Shields-born Longstaff joined Newcastle’s academy set-up as a schoolboy and had loan spells at Kilmarnock and Blackpool before making his senior Magpies debut under Rafael Benitez in a League Cup game with Nottingham Forest in August 2018.
He has made 214 competitive appearances in a Newcastle shirt, scoring 16 goals, and has repeatedly been praised for his professionalism and willingness to sacrifice personal ambition for the good of the team.
Arguably his greatest moment for the Magpies came in January 2023 when he scored both goals in the second-leg victory over Southampton at St James’ Park that took Newcastle through to the Carabao Cup final, where they would go on to lose to Manchester United in their first Wembley appearance for more than two decades.
Longstaff also scored in Newcastle’s memorable thrashing of Paris St Germain in the Champions League two seasons ago, but he came an increasingly peripheral presence last season as he struggled to force his way into Eddie Howe’s first-team plans.
His final league start came in last December’s defeat at Brentford, and his final outing of any description came when he left the bench in May’s home win over Chelsea.
With Joe Willock and Lewis Miley available to deputise for Newcastle’s established first-choice midfield trio of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, it remains to be seen whether the Magpies opt to sign a direct replacement for Longstaff this summer.
They have, however, been linked with a possible move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, who is set to leave La Liga and return to England this summer.
