7 Hume: Defended solidly down Sunderland’s right-hand side and delivered an excellent cross for Mayenda’s winner

7 O’Nien: As influential as ever on his 300th appearance – made some crucial challenges in the final quarter-of-an-hour

6 Hjelde: Got the nod to start ahead of Cirkin, and while he wasn’t always rock solid, he put in a good shift

6 Bellingham: Came close with a first-half shot that was deflected over, but wasn’t able to control the game

7 Roberts: Had some dangerous moments as Sunderland counter-attacked and was always an outlet for his side

6 Browne: Played as the most attacking of Sunderland’s central midfielders, but wasn’t really a factor in the final third

6 Mundle: Had some bright moments down the left-hand side, although played in patches

8 MAYENDA: Sunderland’s match-winner as he scored both of his side’s goals – an excellent lone-striker display
