Spennymoor follow FA Trophy delight with crucial league win

Just three days after stunning Rochdale to book a trip to Wembley in the FA Trophy final, Moors won 3-0 away at Curzon Ashton in what was their game in hand in National League North to close the gap on the play-off places to just one point.

Lee’s side are on a superb run of form, having lost just one of their last eight games in all competitions.

And they have eyes on promotion as well as their May Wembley trip thanks to their latest league victory, secured thanks to second half goals from Junior Mondal, Glen Taylor and Will Harris.

“The lads enjoyed themselves Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning, and rightly so,” said Lee.

“But we spoke about the focus on today. We spoke about achieving things but good teams go on and approach the next game in the right manner.

“You could see we were on it in the warm-up. Curzon are a good team but we knew we could hurt them. In the second half we were outstanding.

“When you come to places like this your shape has to be really good, then it’s about what you do when you have the ball. And we were superb.”

Lee was desperate to ensure his players don’t get distracted by their coming cup final, especially with so much still to play for in National League North, with Moors up to ninth in the table, just a point behind seventh-placed Hereford in the play-offs and three behind Curzon Ashton and Chorley.

Lee said: “We’ve spoken about the feeling they had from Saturday and taking that energy into the next game.

“I told them they had to remember that feeling and if we keep playing like that we’ll cause teams problems in our league.

“That energy, excitement, the lads should be confident and you can see that.”

Next up for Spennymoor is a trip to face league leading Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Lee said: “These are the games you want to be in. You have to go to these places with belief. I don’t think many teams will be excited to play us at the minute.”
