The Black Cats will face Sporting at the Estadio Algarve on Monday, July 21.
That will be the second game Regis Le Bris’ side play during their Portuguese trip, with a match against as yet unnamed opponents also scheduled for Saturday, July 19.
Sporting are the reigning Portuguese top-flight champions, having finished two points clear of Benfica last season, and will compete in next season’s Champions League.
The kick-off times and ticket details for Sunderland’s two matches in the Algarve are still to be confirmed, but the club are offering travel packages to cover both games via their official website.
Sunderland have also confirmed UK-based pre-season matches against Gateshead, South Shields, Hearts, Hull City and Real Betis ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
