Sunderland player ratings vs Swansea: Le Fee & Mayenda make difference

6 Patterson: Didn’t have much to do and helpless for the goal after Darling reacted quickest to Cabango’s header off the bar.

6 Browne: Another solid outing at right-back for the midfielder, who has proved himself a reliable option in that position.

6 Mepham: Solid and steady again. Not really tested

6 O’Nien: Like Mepham, not particularly troubled and will be disappointed to not keep a fourth successive clean sheet.

6 Hume: Couple of crucial blocks and challenges. Tried to get forward in the second half.

5 Neil: Way short of his best. Sloppy in possession. Sunderland’s midfield again missed the energy and drive of Jobe Bellingham.

5 Rigg: Couple of flashes of quality but struggled to get into the game and replaced on the hour.

5 Jones: Difficult first Championship start for the youngster, who was always on the want for the ball but – alongside the other midfielders and attackers – wasn’t able to make an impact.

6 Roberts: Bright early on and a couple of threatening runs from the right, but failed to create anything of note.

5 Watson: The winger was ineffective on the left and was booed by some supporters when he was replaced.

5 Isidor: Early goal disallowed but was then contained and didn’t look like ending his run without a goal, which now stands at nine appearances.

SUBSTITUTES:

7 Le Fee (for Jones, 59): Made a difference from the bench. Added some much-needed spark.

7 Mayenda (for Rigg, 59): Lively and asked more questions of the Swansea defence than Isidor.

Aleksic (for Watson, 76): N/A

Samed (for Neil, 76): N/A

Hjelde (for Browne, 85): N/A

SUBS NOT USED: Moore , Anderson, Lavery, Bainbridge

SWANSEA: Vigouroux 7; Key 6, Cabango 7, Darling 7, Tymon 7; Fulton 6 (Cooper, 68), Franco 6 (Allen, 85), O’Brien 7; Ronald 6 (Bianchini, 85), Eom 6, Cullen 6 (Vipotnik, 67).

SUBS NOT USED: McLaughlin, Christie, Naughton, Lloyd, Parker.

Man of the Match: Lewis O’Brien. The Swansea midfielder was busy throughout. Sunderland’s best players were substitutes Mayenda and Le Fee, who underlined their importance from the bench.
