Sunderland suspension blow after harsh Trai Hume Bristol City red card

Hume was given a red card after just seven minutes after referee Oliver Langford judged the full-back to have fouled Bristol City striker Nahki Wells.

It looked an incredibly harsh decision. Wells was heading away from goal and already looked to be losing his balance when he went down under the slightest bit of contact from Hume.

Sunderland will have the option to appeal the decision but if they don’t, or if any appeal is unsuccessful, Hume will be forced to sit out of Monday’s visit of Blackburn.

He would, however, only have to serve a one-match ban so he’d back for the final two games of the regular season before the play-offs.

Hume is hugely important for Sunderland and has started 41 of the 42 Championship games this season. The only game he missed was the draw with Millwall back in November after picking up five yellow cards.
