With Eddie Howe continuing to recover after being treated in hospital for pneumonia, Tindall took charge of his third game as stand-in boss at Villa Park this evening.
But whereas his first two matches resulted in emphatic wins over Manchester United and Crystal Palace, the assistant was unable to complete a hat-trick of wins as Newcastle were thrashed 4-1 by a rampant Villa.
There has been no reported change to Howe’s condition in the last few days, with the club not having issued a statement since Monday, when they confirmed their head coach was suffering from pneumonia.
As a result, Tindall will head into next week remaining in charge of training and is planning as if he will still be in charge when Ipswich visit St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
“Until I’m told otherwise, then obviously that (taking charge of the team) is my duty and what I have to do,” said Tindall.

“I’ve said it before, the most important thing for Ed is that he rests and he recovers. The more he does that, then the sooner he’ll be able to come and lead the team again.”
Tindall was speaking in the immediate aftermath of Newcastle’s defeat at Villa Park, and he confirmed he had not had any contact with Howe either before or after the game.
“I’ve not (spoken to Howe),” he said. “I’ve not had chance to see my phone since the final whistle has gone.
“I’m not sure if there is any contact there, but as soon as there is any more news, then I’m sure the media team will update on that.”
