Boro’s final day defeat at Coventry meant Michael Carrick’s side finished tenth in the Championship, four points adrift of the play-off places.
Promotion was the aim this season but Boro were plagued by inconsistency throughout the campaign and fell short in their bid to go up.

That has led to uncertainty surrounding the future of Carrick but it’s understood the Boro hierarchy will thoroughly analyse the season and what went wrong and won’t be rushed into what one source has described as any ‘knee-jerk reactions’.
Boro bosses will take stock of the season and assess what went right and wrong before deciding on the best course of action and their path for the future.
Promotion will again be the aim for Boro in the Championship next season, but it looks set to be a busy summer of ins and outs.
