Spennymoor legend Glen Taylor gets testimonial friendly

Taylor has earned legendary status since rejoining Spennymoor in 2015, becoming the club’s all-time record scorer in 2022 before moving past 200 goals last season.

After a decade of incredible service, Moors has now agreed to grant the 35-year-old a testimonial season in 2025/26 which will kick-off with a friendly against a Stockport County XI at the Brewery Field on Saturday, July 19 (3pm).

There has been a link forged between Taylor and Stockport since the predatory front man scored a 94th-minute goal for Moors against Chorley which paved the way for County’s promotion in 2019.

Indeed, Stockport fans now celebrate ‘Glen Taylor Day’ to mark the occasion each year and even invited him to Edgeley Park to be announced on the pitch before a game in 2023.

“I’m extremely honoured that the club has offered me this testimonial season,” Taylor told the club’s website.

“Over the last decade I have built some incredible memories playing for Spennymoor Town and this is going to be a great way to reflect on that and thank the fans for their support.

“I’m grateful that Stockport have agreed to form the opposition for the game and I am hoping that quite a few County fans can make the trip and enjoy the afternoon with us at The Brewery Field.

“I really want this to be a celebration of everything we’ve achieved together over the last ten years and hopefully it can be an occasion for us all to remember.”

Spennymoor managing director Ian Geldard added: “We’re exceptionally proud of what Glen has done for this football club.

“His goals and performances over the years speak for themselves – but Glen has been an outstanding role model and a fantastic ambassador for Spennymoor too.

“Given what he’s done for North East football, I would love to see Moors fans joined by those from around the area to celebrate one of the most talented players to have ever played in non-league in our region.

“It promises to be a fantastic occasion and a real afternoon of celebration, and it would be fitting for Glen to see The Brewery Field absolutely packed to honour him.”

Tickets for the friendly are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
