Several current and former Darlington football players have returned the years of support given by a superfan by buying copies of his latest book.
Author Paul Hodgson says he is “ovewhelmed” by the number of players who have backed his book, titled ‘Another 100 Of The Best: Darlington’s Great Ever Players’.
Several players attended the launch of his book at the Dolphin Centre in February this year.
And now, dozens of players who have since bought the book have sent Paul photographs of themselves holding it to demonstrate their support.
The book is a tribute to 100 of Darlington FC’s players from the 1970s onwards, who have made an indelible impression on Paul, who has been supporting the club since attending his first match aged seven in 1973.
Each chapter includes a profile of the featured player and Paul’s most memorable Darlington match they played in.
Most of the players pictured actually feature in the book and many have kept in touch with Paul since their playing days.
Paul, who has overcome severe disability to pursue his passion, said: “I’m overwhelmed by the support from current and former players who bought my book Another One Hundred of the Best.
“It’s excellent that the players I supported some years ago now support me.”

He added: “In addition, many thanks to my friend and current Darlington Director John Vickerman, who has supported everything I have done for over 20 years.”
Paul has written six books in total – and is presently working on a seventh – and hasd also had a film made of his life.
