A new PS5 system update is out now but don’t get too excited | Gaming | Entertainment

The PlayStation 5 has just been given a new firmware update by Sony.

PS5 system update 25.05-11.60.00 is currently being rolled out to PlayStation fans across the world.

The phased release can be installed manually, or by setting up automatic updates on your PS5 console.

The news was announced by Sony, alongside a guide on how to install updates on the PS5.

“Starting today, PS5 system software will be updated to version 25.05-11.60.00 in a phased release,” reads a Sony tweet.

“For information about the latest system software features or if you would like to update manually, please check our guide.”

In terms of what the update changes, the new download doesn’t make any particularly interesting or exciting upgrades.

Indeed, according to the PS5 update 25.05-11.60.00 patch notes, the new download only really makes one change.

As pointed out by Sony, the update “improves system software performance and stability”.

This means the console should run that little bit smoother and without as many crashes.

The update launches just hours after the release of the PS Plus Extra and Premium games for July 2025.

PS Plus Extra subscribers will be able to play Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, Bluey: The Videogame, Planet Zoo, Risk of Rain 2, Tropico 6 and New World: Aeternum.

That’s on top of Cyberpunk 2077, which joined the PlayStation Plus Extra line-up last week. Furthermore, unique survival game Abiotic Factor will join PS Plus on July 22.

The PS Plus Premium line-up only features two games, as Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal 4 are added.
