Spennymoor scheme aimed at Middlesbrough, Newcastle & Sunderland fans

The groundbreaking ‘Second Club Season Ticket’ means fans of the region’s big three clubs can enjoy live National League North football when their team aren’t playing at home.

Spennymoor have identified all the non-conflicting matchdays of Boro, Newcastle and Sunderland to create a bespoke season ticket, with a range of reduced prices.

“We know that football is in the blood of so many people in this region,” said Ian Geldard, Spennymoor’s managing director.

“They won’t change their allegiances, we know that – but we’re hoping to provide an affordable option to enjoy some live football on their doorsteps when their team aren’t in action.

“It’s a new idea but it’s one that excites us. We’re proud of the welcoming matchday environment we provide at The Brewery Field and it’s fair to say there’s been plenty of entertainment on show in recent seasons too.

“Our message to North East football fans is simple – when your team is away, come along with your family and friends and make Spennymoor your second home.”

Spennymoor are targeting a promotion push this coming season after missing out on the play-offs by just a single point last term.

Despite that near miss, it was still a season that will live long in the memory for Moors, who defied the odds to reach the final of the FA Trophy at Wembley, where they lost 3-0 to Aldershot.

They’ve since tied down a number of key players to new contracts and made some eye-catching additions as they prepare for the coming National League North season.

Graeme Lee’s side are in action on Saturday when they take on a Stockport County XI in Glen Taylor’s testimonial.

Club legend Taylor had scored more than 200 goals for Moors over the last decade, and club bosses are hoping for a big crowd in recognition of the striker’s achievements.

The game is not segregated, and supporters of both sides can choose to either buy in advance online or pay by cash or card on the turnstiles prior to kick-off.
