Eddie Howe still to decide over plans for Seung-soo Park

Park joined Newcastle from South Korean side Suwon Bluewings earlier this month and is part of the squad that has flown to the Far East for a pre-season tour.

The 18-year-old became the youngest professional goalscorer in South Korean history when he netted in a 1-1 draw against Ansan Greeners in June 2024 and boasts five caps with the South Korean Under-20s side.

He was not involved in Sunday’s friendly defeat to Arsenal in Singapore, but is set to be involved in tomorrow’s game with an All Stars XI in Suwon.

“I’ll do everything I can to try to get him on the pitch because I think that’ll be important for him, and of course everyone that wants to see him play,” said head coach Eddie Howe. “I’ll certainly do my best.

“We’ve got lots of information we’ll be giving him, but I think it’ll just be a case of, go out and play his normal game and that will be good enough.”

Beyond that, it remains to be seen what happens, with a season-long loan an obvious option given Park’s lack of senior experience.

Another of Newcastle’s summer development signings, Spanish winger Antonio Cordero, is set to spend next season on loan at Belgian Pro League club Westerlo, and there is a good chance Park could be handed a similar move.

“I think it’s slightly unclear what’s going to happen short term with him,” said Howe. “We’re going to have to make an assessment on where we see him fitting in the best currently.

“We’ve had only a very short-term impression, one or two training sessions. It’s been very positive so far – he seems like a very good person, fundamentally, and it’s all new experiences for him, but I’m sure he’ll do very, very well.

“We’ve very keen to look at this as a future market for us, signing a similar profile of player, so this is hopefully just the start.”
