Upcoming horror movie Passenger has already been dubbed “the scariest film of 2026” after the trailer left audiences “screaming out loud” thanks to its “jump scare of the year”. The movie stars Jacob Scipio and Lou Llobell as a couple whose idyllic road trip goes horribly wrong when they witness a fatal car accident.

The movie has been given a confirmed release date of May 22, and the trailer indicates fans are in for a real treat. Fans took to X to rave about it after watching the preview. One commented: “Alright that first jump scare got me good.” Another added: “Passengert has that suspense vibe that pulls you in immediately.” A third raved: “Don’t think a trailer has made me actually jump MULTIPLE times in a long time. Def going to see this!” A fourth shared: “This looks absolutely terrifying and proves to me why quiet American roads that have nothing but forest or desert for miles are the most terrifying places in the world to me lmao.”

A fifth gushed: “Finally an actual horrifying movie. I love that this trailer isn’t telling me the entirety of this movie like a lot of these ‘horror’ movies in today’s society. I’m actually excited, like I’m actually upset I can’t predict what this movie is about, which is a very good thing.”

Meanwhile, a sixth raved: “This trailer totally took me back to the first time I got lost in a sci-fi flick at midnight with my friends, can’t wait to see where this ride goes!”

The teaser opens with text on screen which reads: “Last year, over 130 million people took road trips.” It then cuts to a man leaving his friend in the car as he steps out to pee against a tree.

When the car horn starts honking, the man thinks his friend is urging him to hurry up, but when he gets back to the car, his friend is gone.

The words “15,400 of them were never seen again,” then appear on the screen before the trailer cuts back to the man getting back into the car and looking through the windscreen pensively.

In a huge jump scare moment, a man covered in blood and cuts then catapults through the windscreen and lands in front of him. “Help me,” he says before he gets dragged away at the speed of light.

The trailer then shows a young couple on a road trip witnessing a gruesome highway accident.

Following this, a demonic presence called the Passenger won’t stop until it claims them both, turning their adventure into a nightmare.
