Dying Light game cancelled for PlayStation and Xbox leaving millions unable to play | Gaming | Entertainment

In one of the most unsurprising twists of recent times, Techland has announced that Dying Light The Beast is no longer in development for last-gen consoles. Sadly, this means million of PS4 and Xbox One won’t be able to enjoy the zombie survival game.

According to developer Techland, technical limitations meant that the game simply wasn’t possible on PS4 and Xbox One. In a statement apologising for the cancellation, Techland said that fans who pre-ordered a last-gen version of Dying Light The Beast are eligible for a refund.

“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision that Dying Light: The Beast will no longer be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One,” reads a Techland statement.

“Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware.

“Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide.

“As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create.”

Techland said that while it didn’t want to leave the last-gen consoles behind, the decision reflected the “technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience”.

In the meantime, Dying Light The Beast is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It’s even Steam Deck Verified if you wanted to play it on the go.

Dying Light The Beast was originally meant to launch as DLC for Dying Light 2, before Techland expanded the project and release it as a standalone game.

The game takes place in Castor Woods, which is said to be inspired by the TV show Twin Peaks.

It also supports four-person co-operative play, and features the usual combination of parkour platforming and hand-to-hand combat.
