Carabao Cup Final: Newcastle fans warned of ticket ‘scam’

Northumbria Police have received several complaints via Action Fraud about a scam circulating on social media which included reports of fake tickets being sold and advertised in a group chat for the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

The group chat is believed to have been closed, but police have urged fans to stay alert as the game between Newcastle and Liverpool approaches.

Detective Inspector Phil Thoburn of Northumbria Police said: “Sadly, it would appear a number of people have already fallen victim to this ticket scam, which took advantage of those wanting seats at a highly anticipated event.”

He added: “We’d always advise people to only purchase tickets through a trusted source, whether that’s online or in person.”

He further cautioned fans intending to attend sold-out concerts by popular bands this summer, like Oasis, Sam Fender, and Black Sabbath, to be wary of similar scams.

He said: “We’re asking fans to remain vigilant – and if it seems too good to be true, the likelihood is it probably is.”

If you suspect you have fallen victim to this scam, contact Action Fraud immediately on 0300 123 2040 between Monday and Friday, 8am-8pm.
