Egg inflation: Keys Cafe adds temporary surcharge

Keys Cafe and Bakery has introduced a temporary 50-cent surcharge per egg at its nine Twin Cities locations, citing supply shortages and rising costs.

The St. Paul-based restaurant chain says the extra charge will fluctuate based on egg prices and will be removed once costs stabilize.

Keys Cafe joins national chains like Denny’s and Waffle House in temporarily raising egg prices to offset market volatility.

Owners say they hope the surcharge will be short-lived and plan to adjust it as market conditions allow.

Founded in 1973, Keys Cafe has grown into a Twin Cities institution with multiple locations across the metro area.
