Almost 150 runners take part in first Teesside NHS 5k

The event took place on Sunday (March 9) in Yarm, with runners of all abilities crossing the finish line at HMP Kirklevington Grange prison.

The prison is where the trust provides mental health care as part of its health and justice services.

The course consisted of three laps around the prison, finishing with a lap inside the prison gates.

Emma Brookshaw, race director, said: “The TEWV 5k was a chance for us to grow our running portfolio and deliver a fun event at a unique location.

“We would like to say a big thank you to our volunteers, participants and partners at HMP Kirklevington Grange who helped make this happen.”

This year will include a band on the run, with Steelworks steel band from Middlesbrough playing for runners.

All finishers will receive a TEWV 10k medal.

The day will also include a one-mile fun run for anyone aged three and up.

It is almost sold out, with around 20 entries remaining.

Emma continued: “We believe we’re the first NHS Trust in the country to manage and stage our own running events and we’re looking forward to the upcoming TEWV 10k being bigger and better than ever.”
