And despite the fact Isidor endured a frustrating night against North End, Le Bris said the change was the right one after Sunderland fought back to rescue a point against North End.
Le Bris restored Isidor to the team against Preston after two games on the bench and opted to partner Sunderland’s top scorer with Mayenda, who’d scored three goals in the wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Preston.
The decision backfired with Sunderland underperforming against Preston, prompting Le Bris to turn to his bench on the hour mark.
But the head coach opted to withdraw Mayenda rather than Isidor, who had missed a first half sitter when he headed wide from inside the six yard box.
Explaining the decision, Le Bris said: “Eli has played many minutes the last couple of weeks so it was my choice.
“Our balance wasn’t good at that moment so it was important to play with three midfielders.
“I had to make a choice and my choice at that moment was Wilson was a bit more fresh. The balance of the team was better after that so it was a good choice. After that it’s a question of feeling and confidence, so it was my choice.”
On Isidor’s first half chance, Le Bris said: “It wasn’t the only one. We had four or five chances to score.
“In this kind of game with an opponent who plays that type of game it’s very important to score because it can kill the game, rather than keeping them alive.
“We should have a better control of the game and it wasn’t the case.”
