Newcastle are ‘managing the minutes’ of both players at this stage of pre-season, with Isak having represented Sweden earlier in the summer and Joelinton having missed the final month of last season through injury.
Isak’s absence, however, is something of a surprise, and will add to the ongoing speculation over the striker’s future.
The Swede was the subject of an approach from Liverpool earlier this month, and while Newcastle remain adamant he is not for sale, his lack of involvement at Parkhead will inevitably lead to further questions over his position within the Magpies squad.
While there has been talk of Isak signing a new deal this summer, contractual discussions are currently understood to be at a standstill.
Other than Isak and Joelinton, there are no other notable absentees, with Eddie Howe having named a strong starting side at Parkhead.
Nick Pope starts in goal, with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Matt Targett making up the back four.
Bruno Guimaraes, Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes also feature in the starting side, with Will Osula starting up front.
There are expected to be a large number of substitutions as the afternoon progresses, with the likes of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon named amongst the replacements.
Summer signing Anthony Elanga is also named amongst the substitutes, and is expected to make his first appearance in a Newcastle shirt at some stage.
