Elanga is the only new signing to start, with Malick Thiaw and Aaron Ramsdale both on the bench.
Nick Pope is in goal, with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Tino Livramento starting in defence. Lewis Hall is a substitute having not played much football in pre-season because of injury. Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Bruno will play in midfield.
Ollie Watkins, who is believed to be of interest to Newcastle, starts up-front for Aston Villa.
The Magpies are on the verge of completing the signing of Jacob Ramsey from today’s opponents. Ramsey had his medical on Tyneside on Friday.
