Far from Paris’s traditional exhibition spaces, on a little-traveled street beneath a concrete bridge, there is a place worth visiting for anyone interested in technology related to alternative energy for transportation, heating, food and more. In a construction-site container and a venue loaned by the town hall of the 13th arrondissement, the non-profit organization Atelier 21 created the Rétrofutur Museum, a space where visitors (re)discover unusual objects on a mandatory guided tour.
It is also a place where conversation flows freely. The museum’s slogan, “Inventions from the Past, Tools for Tomorrow,” sums up its goal: to inspire individuals and society to imagine a future that is more climate and environmentally-conscious.
In the first part of the museum, which also serves as the association’s office, old voltmeters, batteries, solar panels, and other devices are displayed on stands. The guides, including Cédric Carles, a former designer who started the project, are full of stories and readily engage visitors in the experience.
