Darlington road closures for Tour of Britain Women’s race



Rolling road closures and parking restrictions will be in place in Sadberge and Middleton St George for the second stage of the Lloyds Tour of Britain women’s cycle race.

These closures will typically last 15 to 20 minutes and will be managed by police and race outriders to minimise disruption.

The affected roads are: 

  • Sadberge Road/Yarm Road roundabout, 
  • Bishopton to Whinny Hill, 
  • Church View, Sadberge, 
  • Elstob Lane, 
  • High Street, Bishopton, 
  • Hillhouse Lane, 
  • Middleton Road,
  • Redmarshall Road, Bishopton, 
  • Sadberge Road, 
  • South View, Sadberge, 
  • Stainton View, Sadberge, 
  • Station Road, Middleton St George, 
  • The Front, Middleton One Row, 
  • The Green, Bishopton,  
  • The Square, Middleton St George

The closures will be rolled out roughly between 11am and 12.30pm, although exact timings will depend on race conditions.

Friday’s stage starts in Hartlepool and finishes in Saltburn, with approximately 20km of the route passing through Darlington.

The four-day event will be live on the BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app, with content also across the BBC Sport social media channels.

There is a record number of teams competing in the race this year – 19 – highlighting the prestige and global pull of racing at this world-class event on the roads of Britain.

Among the riders scheduled to take part are current European champion Lorena Wiebes, double 2024 Olympic gold medallist Kristen Faulkner, and former race winner and world champion, the UK’s Lizzie Deignan.
