McGowan has signed on loan from Gateshead for the second time this season, and will remain with Quakers for the remainder of the campaign.
The midfielder made 11 appearances during his first spell at Blackwell Meadows earlier in the season, scoring twice in the 3-0 home win over Southport.
He was recalled by Gateshead, and played 17 times for the National League side, scoring once, before agreeing to rejoin Darlington.

Storey, a 31-year-old defender, has also agreed to join Quakers for the rest of the season.
He played in the Northern League for Team Northumbria, South Shields and Hebburn, where he enjoyed success in the 2021 FA Vase final against Consett, who were then managed by current Quakers assistant boss Terry Mitchell.
Storey moved to Gateshead in the summer of 2021 and helped the Tynesiders win promotion from National League North to the National League in his first season.

He was part of the side that reached the 2023 FA Trophy final, losing to Halifax, and returned to Wembley a year later, this time scoring in the shoot-out as Gateshead won the Trophy by beating Solihull on penalties.
When Mike Williamson and his management team left the International Stadium in October 2023, Storey was appointed assistant manager to Rob Elliot. He continued to play, making ten appearances for Gateshead before the pair left for Crawley in League Two in October 2024.
They parted company with Crawley earlier this week, paving the way for Storey to see out the season with Darlington.
