Durham Regatta 2025: Rowers to take to Wear in 192nd event

The 192nd Durham Regatta features a packed programme of two days of racing on June 14/15, mainly over the short 700-metre course, but with some senior crews also taking part on the testing longer 1,800m route, from Pelaw Wood to the Counts House.

The event promises plenty of thrills and spills on the river, but with many bankside counter attractions to cater for all tastes and ages, including a range of musical performances on the riverside bandstand and a classic car show on the Racecourse playing fields.

With decent weekend weather forecast, about 10,000-plus spectators are expected over the two days, with around 1,400 competitors taking part in crews mainly from across the north of England and some from further afield.

Donated funds will be dedicated to development areas of the regatta which may not otherwise have been possible.

Regatta chair, Michael Laing, presented plans for the 2025 event alongside longer term plans, including essential dredging works to the River Wear.

Mr Shanley said: “The Parish Council is delighted to once again support this terrific event this year and we are also promoting the regatta to our city residents through our own website too.”

“As an event, the regatta combines the very best of exciting racing and a community festival with attractions, music and refreshments.

“The community festival is an incredibly important way of keeping our links with the residents of our city.”

The best vantage points are on the Regatta Enclosure, on the city Racecourse, where most of the food and drink stalls are located.
