The connection was made through Vicki Hughes, a night team member at the care home.
Her son plays for the team and she volunteers with the club.
Ms Hughes approached the team at DurhamGate to see if they could help.

To celebrate the new relationship, the under-10s team will soon visit the DurhamGate care home to meet residents and show off their new coats.
In return, the home hopes to take residents along to matches in the near future to cheer the players on from the sidelines.

One resident, Doreen Hughes, has a personal connection to the club through her brother, who once played for them.
Football matches are often screened in the home’s cinema room, where residents gather to enjoy the game together.
Andrew Long, CEO of Adore Care Homes, said: “We’re always looking for ways to strengthen community ties and create joyful, shared experiences for our residents.
“Supporting the under-10s with something as simple – but important – as a warm coat feels like a natural fit.
