Eddie Howe responds to Jason Tindall to QPR rumours

QPR are looking for a new boss after Marti Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave in the wake of reports suggesting his representatives had spoken to West Brom about the managerial vacancy at the Hawthorns.

Tindall has been touted as a potential candidate in recent days, with the London-based media suggesting that the Newcastle assistant features on a list of options drawn up by the hierarchy at Loftus Road.

The Newcastle number two has previously managed on his own at Bournemouth, but claimed he had no interest in taking up another managerial position when he was asked about his future plans as he stood in for Howe while the Magpies head coach underwent treatment for pneumonia last month.

The subject of Tindall’s future was raised when Howe conducted his pre-match press conference ahead of this afternoon’s game at Brighton on Friday, with the latter clearly hoping that the pair’s current partnership is not broken up.

Howe said: “No, I know nothing of that (suggestions that Tindall is a potential candidate for QPR). “That’s the first I’ve heard of it.

“I certainly hope not. JT’s been brilliant for me, personally. And very highly valued, yeah, so I don’t want him to go anywhere.”

While QPR played their final game of the Championship season at Sunderland yesterday, they are hoping to resolve the uncertainty surrounding their managerial position as quickly as possible.

QPR chief executive Christian Nourry said: “This is naturally a disappointing situation for everyone concerned. I fully understand and appreciate supporters’ frustrations at this time.

“As a club, we are working to ensure this matter is resolved as swiftly as possible so we can start preparations in earnest for the future.”
