Wilson missed the first half of the season because of injury and started his first game of the campaign at Liverpool on Wednesday night.
But that opportunity came about after Alexander Isak complained of a groin issue and was forced to miss the defeat at Anfield.
Isak’s injury isn’t serious but today’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Brighton could come too soon, with Howe reluctant to risk his star striker.
That means Wilson is likely to be in from the off again.
But Howe would love to have both strikers fit and firing at the same time, something that has rarely happened over the course of the last couple of years.
“It’s been a big frustration,” he said.
“My mind goes back to Burnley last year when we played them in tandem. I thought they were outstanding together.
“They looked a real handful and they enjoyed playing together. It brought a different dimension to us. Since then, we haven’t had them in the best physical condition to play them together.
“Even now, Callum is still finding his way back to his best and Alex has this recent problem. I would love to get to the stage where they’re both 100 per cent fit and maybe look at that option.”

After his injury frustration in the first half of the season, Wilson will be desperate to stay fit and take his chance in the team, particularly as he approaches the end of his contract, which is due to expire this summer.
Howe said: “I’ve always said I’ve never written Callum off in my head in terms of what he can bring to the team.
“He is a goalscorer, he’s strong, quick, physical, he understands everything tactically.
“The biggest thing is just getting some momentum in his game so he can play enough minutes to rediscover his rhythm.
“That’s what he needs. Which is difficult to do when Callum is fit. It’s difficult for us to get players fit in the team. They have to get fit then execute their skills.
“It’a a delicate balance but Callum has every motivation to do well and I’d back him to do so.”
