Nmecha spent six months at Boro during the covid-disrupted 2019/20 season but failed to score in 13 appearances during his loan spell from Manchester City.
But his Boro struggle wasn’t a sign of things to come.
The following season the forward impressed on loan at Anderlecht and earned an £11m move to Wolfsburg, where he’s scored 16 goals in 63 Bundesliga appearances.
But Nmecha’s contract is up this summer and the 26-year-old is now set to return to England to join Leeds as a fresh agent, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Nmecha will reportedly be signed to add depth to Daniel Farke’s squad, with Leeds still planning to sign another striker this summer as they plan for the Premier League.
Nmecha’s last start for Boro came in June 2020 in the 3-0 home defeat to Swansea City, which turned out to be Jonathan Woodgate’s last game in charge. He only made two substitute appearances after the appointment of Neil Warnock, who kept Boro in the Championship.
The future of Patrick Bamford, another former Boro striker, is unclear. Bamford still has a year to run on his contract at Elland Road and still believes he has plenty to offer.
He said on Fozcast – The Ben Foster Podcast – recently: “I’d like to play for as long as one, I still enjoy it and, two, I can still stay at a good level. And I reckon I have still got a good five years.
“I feel all right now. But as soon as one of those two goes I think I would then say that I am not going to force it.”
