Malick Thiaw confirms imminent Newcastle United transfer

A fee of 35million euros and 5million in add-ons has been agreed for the 24-year-old German, who is set to undergo his medical in the North East on Monday morning.

Thiaw was not included in the Rossoneri squad for Sunday’s friendly against Chelsea, which they lost 4-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to Sky in Italy on Sunday evening, ahead of travelling to Tyneside for his medical, he said: “These three years at AC Milan have been a pleasure. I have learned a lot, I grew a lot as a footballer but mostly as a person.

“I wish all the best to all the people I spent my time here with, the players and the staff, the media, the doctors.”

He added that he was “very happy” with his upcoming move and, when asked if he was ready for the Premier League, replied with a smile: “Yes, I am.”

The defender began his professional career with Schalke before joining Milan in 2022, going on to make 84 appearances for the club.

Newcastle are continuing preparations for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa on the back of what has so far been a mixed transfer window.

Anthony Elanga and Park Seung-soo have arrived on permanent deals and Aaron Ramsdale has joined on loan, but the club missed out on the services of Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, James Trafford and Joao Pedro, and are continuing to have to deal with the Alexander Isak situation.
