Middlesbrough injury update ahead of Millwall game

Azaz missed the entirety of the pre-season friendly campaign through but has resumed training this week and boss Rob Edwards was impressed by the forward at Rockliffe on Tuesday.

Saturday’s game will come too soon for Azaz to start, but he might make the bench, with Edwards planning to make a final decision at the end of the week after a couple more training sessions.

George Edmundson has resumed light training but isn’t yet in contention to return to the matchday squad, while Darragh Lenihan is “progressing well” but yet ready to return to training.

Riley McGree and Alex Bangura are also sidelined, while Edwards was today planning to assess a couple of players who picked up knocks in last night’s Carabao Cup defeat to Doncaster.

Law McCabe hobbled off in the late stages of the game and Alfie Jones suffered a cut to his head which needed strapping.

Updating on the injury front, Edwards said on Tuesday night: “Finn looked really decent in training today.

“He’s been out a number of weeks so we know he won’t be available to start the game on Saturday, but whether he’s available for the squad, we shall see.

“Other than that, George is progressing well, Darragh is progressing well but is still maybe a week or two behind. We’re probably looking at potentially Finn for the squad for the weekend.

“Law took a bang towards the end [of the Doncaster game], so we’ll have to find out how he is. Alfie has a bit of a nasty cut on his head; he’s bleeding in there. We’ll find out later exactly how they are.”
