Reeth: 181 competitors take part in DalesRunner event

This was the third edition of the 20km event, which took place on Saturday, March 29.

Of the 181 competitors, 135 completed the full 20km course, while 43 took on the shorter 11km Fremington Frenzy.

Artisan cakes from Two Dales Bakery awaited the finishers, and a car-share raffle encouraged ‘eco-friendly’ travel.

Support for the event came from Swaledale Mountain Rescue, with prizes courtesy of Let’s Run.

Jess Young from DalesRunner said: “We’ve had a fantastic day of trail running with competitors travelling from across the country to enjoy this amazing landscape.

“This is our third event here in Reeth and we are hugely grateful to the landowners for supporting the event, including Reeth Estate, Arkengarthdale Estate and Castle Farm.”A dry spell ensured firm ground underfoot  (Image: Andrew Fletcher)

Katie Walshaw set a new DR20 ladies’ course record at 1 hour and 39 minutes, and Anna Martin set a new Fremington Frenzy ladies’ course record, finishing in 1 hour and 5 minutes.

Competitor Ruth Waterson said: “Absolutely brilliant course, super ridge running, a friendly well-organised event.”

The next DalesRunner event is on May 15 at Constable Burton Hall near Leyburn, and entries can be made via the DalesRunner website.

DalesRunner also offers guided running and walking in the Swaledale area.
