Regis Le Bris set to play Reinildo & Wilson Isidor against Real Betis

The Black Cats host Betis at the Stadium of Light in their first home friendly of the summer, and Reinildo could feature for the first time since joining as a free agent.

The left-back was handed an extended break after playing for his previous club, Atletico Madrid, in the Club World Cup at the start of the summer, but has now begun to join in full training sessions with the rest of the Sunderland squad at the Academy of Light.

And while Le Bris is adamant he does not want to rush the 31-year-old’s preparations for the new season, he is considering handing him at least some game time in Saturday’s warm-up game.

“We’ll see for Reinildo, said Le Bris, whose side suffered a 2-1 defeat at Hull City on Tuesday night. “It’s a maybe for Saturday, I don’t want to speak too early.

“It will depend on how he reacts to his training load this week. But it’s a possibility he will play, so we will see on that one.”

Le Bris could also restore Wilson Isidor to the matchday squad, with the striker having recovered from the thigh problem suffered during Sunderland’s recent trip to Portugal.

Isidor suffered a thigh issue on the Algarve, but having missed the games against Rangers and Hull, he has begun to build up his workload in training in the last few days.

“Wilson might have some involvement,” added Le Bris. “Again, it will depend on how he reacts this week.

“He has had some discomfort with his thigh which is why he has missed these games, and we don’t want to take any risks with it. But it might be possible for him to play 25, 30 minutes.”

While Isidor is approaching full fitness, Anthony Patterson and Chris Rigg continue to be sidelined by their respective injury issues. As a result, neither player is expected to be involved against Real Betis.

Granit Xhaka has taken part in his first training sessions since joining Sunderland from Bayer Leverkusen and could be handed a first appearance in a Black Cats shirt at the weekend.
