They include a man suspected of assault, an alleged pitch invader and two men charged with throwing missiles.
For all seven the match, which saw Sunderland claim a league victory on Teesside for the first time in two decades years, ended in handcuffs.
It comes after police warned before kick-off they would come down on any potential troublemakers.
Dozens of officers were posted around the stadium, train station and town centre with the dog unit searching matchgoers for drugs and flares.
Cleveland Police confirmed four of those arrested have since been charged.
They include Ryan Hearne, 32, of Fleckney Aveue in Stoke-on-Trent, who was arrested on suspicion of going onto the pitch; Will Robertson, 20, of Larkfield Crescent in Houghton-Le-Spring, arrested on suspicion of throwing missiles; Kyne Stanforth, 33, of Spring Street, Immingham who was arrested on suspicion of throwing missiles; and a 17-year-old from Stockton who cannot be named for legal reasons, charged with causing harassment, alarm or distress.
The teenager has been released on bail conditions including not to attend any UK football match.
A 26-year-old from Sunderland has also been summoned to appear at court after being arrested on suspicion of causing harassment, alarm or distress.
Meanwhile a 20-year-old from Seaham arrested on suspicion of common assault and being drunk and disorderly, and a 64-year-old Sunderland arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm, have both been released on conditional bail.
All were arrested either in the stadium or on its grounds.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said the policing operation went “really well” with little trouble.
