Sunderland selection plan for signings & Romaine Mundle injury update

The trio have all joined the Black Cats in the last week, and while they’re fit and available, they haven’t played much football of late for various reasons.

Alderete only played briefly for Gefate in pre-season and had an injury earlier in the summer, Masuaku was a free agent before joining Sunderland and Guiu had an extended break after featuring for Chelsea in the Club World Cup.

Le Bris hasn’t settled on his starting XI for the West Ham game yet, but the trio are all likely to have to settle for a place on the bench, meaning Eliezer Mayenda is almost certain to start up-front and Jenson Seelt looks set to partner Dan Ballard at centre-half with Reinildo playing at left-back.

“The final decision will be late,” said Le Bris.

“They [the three new signings] came this week so we will have to see if they are ready. To start or just the final part of the game? We’ll see tomorrow.

“I think with Marc, Arthur and Omar we are going to have the opportunity to select them. I think it might be a little bit tough to start because of their fitness levels and because they have not had much time with their team mates. So it might be a little bit early for them to start but that is a decision we will make on Friday morning.

“With Omar, he has had two 45s I think.

“There was also a small issue with his knee but that is now totally healed.

“He had about ten days where he was not in full training. I think he is probably not really ready to start a game. I think if we really needed him he could, because he is a warrior.”

Le Bris also updated on Romaine Mundle, who suffered a fresh hamstring injury in the summer and required surgery.

“The timeframe was about two-and-half or three months, so I think he will hopefully be back sometime in October,” Le Bris said.
